Oakland has made strides toward recovering hospitality business lost during the pandemic, new statistics from the city's tourism bureau show. In 2022 "The Town" hosted about 3.3 million visitors who cumulatively spent about $590 million at Oakland businesses — reaching about 83% and 81%, respectively, of 2019 levels, according to data from non-profit Visit Oakland. On Wednesday the tourism bureau hosted around 200 guests including city officials and local business leaders at venue Bloc15 near Jack London Square to celebrate the progress.
