A new area code arrived in Northern California on Monday as telecom companies began distributing phone numbers beginning with 350. The new area code was added due to high demand for phone numbers in the existing 209 area code local — which encompasses parts of the northern Central Valley. According to the California Public Utilities Commission, the new area code will cover at least parts of Alameda, Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.
